Sayang Kelip-Kelip, A Heartwarming Journey of Conservation & Joy

Updated: May 24

At Senheng, we believe in the power of community and the importance of preserving our natural environment. As part of our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), we proudly sponsor the "Sayang Kelip-kelip" project in collaboration with Laifen and the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). This initiative is dedicated to the conservation of fireflies and their habitats, ensuring that future generations can continue to marvel at these enchanting creatures.

A Day to Remember

On 18 May 2024, we had the privilege of making this project even more impactful by organising a special trip for 45 children from Rumah Aman, a home for orphans and the underprivileged. This event was part of the research grant we provided to FRIM, and it aimed to create a memorable and educational experience for the children.

Rumah Aman, which means “Peaceful Home” in Malay, is an orphanage providing a caring and loving home for children that are orphaned or from very poor or impoverished families. Rumah Aman provides not only a shelter, but a home and an education support program to monitor the progress of each individual child, in all aspect. Source: Rumah Aman Children's Home

The day began with a gathering at a hall where Dr Shawn Sheng, the project leader, gave a brief welcoming speech and invited the children to have dinner before learning about fireflies—their biology, habitat, and the importance of their conservation. En Shahril Adlan conducted an engaging and interactive session, complete with a pop quiz that allowed the children to win some small gifts. The excitement in the room was palpable as the children eagerly participated, showcasing their knowledge and curiosity.

A Special Surprise

To add to the day's excitement, one of our 12 dedicated volunteers from Senheng and Laifen made a special announcement. To make this project even more memorable and to bring joy to the children, Laifen had generously sponsored 48 Laifen SE Lite hair dryers. The children were ecstatic as they received their very own hair dryers, a much-needed gift that brought smiles and cheers all around.

Experiencing the Magic of Fireflies

After the educational session and the surprise gift-giving, it was time for the main event. The children, accompanied by our volunteers, headed to the firefly sanctuary at Kuala Selangor. Here, they embarked on a magical boat ride through the sanctuary, witnessing the mesmerising glow of fireflies in their natural habitat. The sight of these luminous creatures dancing in the night sky left everyone in awe and reinforced the importance of conserving these beautiful insects.

A Commitment to Conservation and Community

This event was more than just a day of fun and learning; it was a testament to our commitment to environmental conservation and community support. By sponsoring the "Sayang Kelip-Kelip" project and participating in such initiatives, Senheng and Laifen are helping to create a brighter future for both our natural world and the children who will inherit it.

We are incredibly grateful to FRIM for organising this unforgettable trip and to all the volunteers who made it possible. Together, we are making a difference—one firefly, and one smile, at a time.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Bus2Charter, provided by Travel Hub Sdn. Bhd., for sponsoring the logistics service to our project. Their generous support ensured smooth and comfortable transportation for the children, making this memorable trip possible.

Stay tuned for more updates on our CSR initiatives and join us in our journey to support our community and conserve our environment.
